What UpLead is
UpLead is a B2B contact database. By its own description, a credit unlocks a contact for download or export and gives you that person’s email address and mobile direct dial. Its site states a 95% accuracy rate for its verified emails, and lists filters by the technology a company uses, along with company news and buying signals.
It is sold by plan. On the day this page was checked its site listed Essentials at $99 a month for 170 credits and Plus at $199 a month for 400 credits, with lower monthly prices on yearly billing, a larger plan priced on request, and a seven-day free trial with five credits.
Side by side
| UpLead | LeadsByCity | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A database of named business contacts, unlocked with credits | Finished lists of local businesses, one niche in one place per list |
| What you pay for | One credit unlocks one contact | One row is one business |
| How you pay | A monthly or yearly plan that includes credits | $7 per 1,000 rows with emails and websites, or $33 per 1,000 with phone numbers, paid once per list |
| Named people | Yes, with email and mobile direct dial | None. A row is a business, not a person |
| Email accuracy stated | 95% for verified emails, on its site | Addresses are marked verified or not; a verified address means its domain's mail servers were found, not that the mailbox was tested |
| Company filters | Technology used, news and buying signals | Niche and place |
| Before you pay | A seven-day trial with five credits | The count for your niche and place and 5 sample rows, before you pay |
| Commitment | A subscription | None. No subscription and no account needed: an email address is enough |

- You filter targets by the software they run or by company size.
- A tested mailbox for each contact matters more to you than covering a whole area.
When LeadsByCity is the better choice
- You need all the businesses of a kind in a place, in the thousands, at a price that makes that possible.
- Your customers are local businesses that are reached through their main number, their website or their published email address.
- You want to pay once for a list and not hold a subscription.
- You do not want named individuals in your files.
Where these facts come from
What this page says about UpLead was read on its own website on the date at the top of the page, and is given as that site states it. UpLead is a trademark of its owner, which has no connection with LeadsByCity. If something here is out of date or wrong, tell us through the contact page and it will be corrected.
Questions and answers
- Is LeadsByCity an UpLead alternative?
- For lists of local businesses, yes. For named contacts with direct phone numbers, no: LeadsByCity holds no named people. The two suit different kinds of selling.
- Why is a row so much cheaper than a credit?
- Because they are different things. A credit unlocks a named person with a direct phone number and a tested email address. A row is a business with the contact details it publishes itself. A list of a whole niche in a city is only practical at a price per thousand.
- Are LeadsByCity emails verified the way UpLead's are?
- No, and the difference matters. In a LeadsByCity file a verified email is on the business's own domain, and that domain's mail servers were found when it was checked. The single mailbox is not tested. UpLead states an accuracy rate for its verified emails on its site.
- How current is the information about UpLead on this page?
- It was read on UpLead's own pricing page on the date shown at the top of the page, prices included. Plans change, so check its site before you decide.
